Agile and the Government: The Self-Managed Team Dilemma

Agile principles, practices and methods present a transformation in the way professionals work.  The differences are monumental when compared to the current standard operating procedures of commercial organizations. Now throw on top of that the nuisances, regulations and requirements in the public sector, specifically the Federal government, and you throw a whole other dimension into the mix.

The slide presented here documents the three biggest hurdles that need to be crossed for a Federal government entity to even consider Agile practices.  Two of the hurdles, budget/planning and metrics/reporting will take significant changes to the Federal acquisition/procurement process to achieve any form of alignment.
