The Internet rapidly changed the United States labor market.  The U.S. pushed aside manufacturing (outsourcing it to foreign nations) and is now focused on creation and service.  In addition, we have become considerably more productive from the “tools” technology has provided.  Basically we are in the middle of a conversion to become a knowledge economy. This is fully transparent when analyzing unemployment numbers and the jobs that are available.

Available jobs stay open because workers lack the knowledge needed to fill them. The unemployed don’t have those skills needed for the so-called “knowledge worker” jobs.  Here we have a knowledge economy driven by creativity, problem solving and services. But the problem we face is management philosophies and practices are still in the “dark ages” of segmented work and mass production driven productivity methods. Click to continue »
